ABOUT THE PROJECT

Inspiring the Next Generation

Street Whyze Project was founded in December 2021 initially as a Facebook page to campaign against knife crime in the Burton upon Trent and Swadlincote districts within the Midlands, following the death of two young in people in these areas.
Award winning founder, Danny Mondesir, who has also been a regular speaker for a knife crime project across the West Midlands for a number of years decided to incorporate Street Whyze Project into a Community Interest Company in February 2022 after recognising a significant need for youth violence interventions locally. Street Whyze has now established itself as a leading and renowned provider of awareness talks, mentoring, youth voice projects and community interventions in South Derbyshire and East Staffordshire.
Using a positive aspirational approach, Danny uses the challenges he himself faced growing up as a young person in Hackney, East London (formally known as "Murder Mile") to project a powerful message.
Danny's significant experience of youth work, inclusion, the criminal justice system, educational support, youth social services and also the armed forces is cleverly used to show an understanding of the deepest challenges that young people face whilst creating a motivational narrative to overcome these and embrace positive opportunities.

KNIFE CRIME & CRIMINAL EXPLOITATION AWARENESS SESSIONS (ASSEMBLIES AND GROUPS)

The Street Whyze session on knife crime is unique. The session comprehensively highlights the issues around adopting a negative, glamourised street culture and offers a true reflection of the potential consequences. It covers the realities of knife crime, criminal exploitation, joint enterprise and misinterpretations of a negative lifestyle that is often portrayed as exciting. The presentation tackles the issues that social media can create and emphasises the importance of positive aspirations, personal accountability and making the right choices.

LEAVING A LEGACY

Street Whyze Project was started after the murder of Oliver Freckleton in Burton upon Trent in December 2021. Oliver's family, after suffering this tragedy and the constant pain of his death, have been supported by Street Whyze and consequently launched East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire's first bleed control cabinets at several locations across these localities.
